September 10 which means this month is already 1/3 of the way through?

I always have a long list of things to do daily plus a list of "jobs' I want to get done this week, this month and others, sometime in the next little while.  I am a procrastinator when it comes to doing things that don't really appeal to me but, I did get the garage cleaned out last weekend.  It was a nice break in our hot weather and was comfortable to work outside in the morning.  The last time my husband went hunting was two years ago and now, all of his hunting clothes and paraphernalia is down in our bunker basement, hanging up or nicely organized so that it is visible to him should an opportunity to use that stuff again happens.  One job out of twenty done!

Weather here is still very warm and above seasonal normal for us.  Plus, we have wicked smoke from forest fires (two east of us, one in Vancouver and some in WA/OR and all smoke is heading into our valley and a weather inversion is keeping it all on the ground.... lucky us)  so I have turned on the a/c, hoping the filter will work magic with the air quality in the house.  Just added to my chore list to purchase an air purifier  for our tv room.

That means time to hide in my sewing room and ignore what is happening around me. :)

I finished the challenge by Preeti using her method for making her Positivity blocks which are the same as garlic knots but her method is super simple and fun.  I used up a lot of bits and pieces of batiks.  This is now residing on a hanger in the "waiting for quilting" area of my basement.

My Vinca block is layered and waiting for quilting plus my two Survivor quilts.  I have finally quilted both Survivor quilts and one is bound and the other is sitting by my recliner for stitching this evening.

Brown Rainbow scrap challenge using strip scraps is done although the colour was supposed to be blue for September. However, I had lots of blue blocks already so chose to use strips from my overflowing brown bin.
I got my Meadowland mystery cutting done which was the step for August and then for September, made the flying geese, step #2.
My Kaffe Fasset Kimberly blocks (GE Designs) are growing.  This is going to be bright!
The brown Rainbow scrap challenge blocks are finished and am getting close to having enough blocks to lay this out.  I started off adding the borders until I realized that the borders are sashing so they go between blocks and not on each and every one!  A senior moment.
Survivor quilt that I started last December, sewing strips together and using a new ruler (Twist and Turn) , is quilted and bound. The second one is quilted, waiting for binding.

Heartstrings group challenge for September is fat quarters so I pulled out twelve odd fat quarters that had some orange in them or went with orange, and made a quilt top using my block called Carolyn's double frames.  This will get quilted and bound and included with the other quilts I am sending off to Survivor Quilts.

For September, the Patterns by Jen challenge is red peppers and I  made two with the dark and lights reversed.  These are 12" blocks so with making 2 every month, I will end up with 24 blocks which will make a decent size quilt top.

A little bit of decor change for September.  Since it isn't technically the Autumn equinox yet, I am doing some decorating a bit at a time.

My Heartstrings group challenge for August was using I spy or Novelty prints and I put that off until the last week of the month.  I pulled out a stack of squares and looked through my inspiration binders for something really simple to do with them.  I ended up with four quilt tops that are waiting for quilting and binding.

We also went on a short road trip to Vancouver Island to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of some friends that we have known since shortly after they got married.  I cannot believe that she kept her wedding dress plus wedding cake topper and one of her bridesmaids kept her hat and the flowers that she carried.  It was a short but fun visit.

This picture above shows one of the packages of fabric that were "tossed" to us at guild meeting on Thursday evening.  It was my first in person guild meeting since Oct 2019.  We are challenged to make a quilt from these fabrics.  I am thinking and can peruse my inspiration albums for some ideas.  I have already pulled out some of my stash fabrics that can go with these.

This is my updated picture of how my Kimberly #2 is coming along.  Bright... very bright!  I will have plenty of blocks to make this a large quilt!  These are 8.5" finished blocks and still lots cut out and waiting to be stitched.

The good news is that I am up to date with my September challenges.  I have 4 preemies to quilt along with my Vinca block and I have my guild challenges to work on.  There are a number of quilts on hangers that would love to be quilted and bound and finished but there is no rush for many of them.  I have a very generous stack of quilts for Quilts of Valour on hand, so this post doesn't have any of those in progress though there will be more if I get busy quilting.
