On a hot August night

We are quite warm here in the Pacific Northwest.  Feels good even if it is a bit too warm for comfort for a lot of people.  It won't last so we need to enjoy the heat.

I have finished quilting a quilt top that was given to me for Quilts of Valour by Susan. A great use of her leftover, scrappy strips.

And, since my cupboard is bare, I have made more hourglass blocks for the maple leaf blocks that I have had sitting here since spring 2011 plus the blocks handed to me at our guild meetings. Again, I thank Marge for the inspiration for this setting.

And, a few more pillowcases made for the Quilts of Valour that were picked up by someone from CFB Chilliwack last week.

Honour House delivery

I am posting pictures of the quilts that we dropped off at Honour House in New Westminster last week.  http://www.honourhouse.ca

They were impressed and I want to thank all the quilters who have made a quilt or quilt top for this cause.

Happy BC Day

We have been having very hot weather (for us here in the Pacific Northwest) and so I have been hiding in my basement, sewing and trying to catch up on all my various projects.

On Thursday, a good friend and I took 20 Quilts of Valour to a wonderful location, Honour House and I will share photos as soon as possible.  Honour house is a wonderful heritage house in New Westminster that has been completed renovated to provide 10 beds for accomodation for the Canadian Military personnel as well as first responders that need a place to stay while in Vancouver while they are getting treatment.  They were thrilled to have quilts to hand out to their guests.

And more quilts are being given to CFB Chilliwack this week so my cupboards are bare.   I have been busy quilting some of the tops that have been donated to this worthy cause.

This quilt was made by Susan and I quilted and bound it for her. Thank you Susan!

And then I ran out of pillowcases for the quilts so got some of those made.

And since my cupboards will be empty this week and I won't have any quilts on hand for Quilts of Valour, I started another quilt using some of the maple leaf blocks that I have on hand.

I am in the process of quilting another donated quilt top and binding a couple of others so will catch up when I have my projects finished.

A top is done!

I have been playing with too many ideas all at one time so today I made myself focus on getting the black borders added to this top.

And my current project is growing.

Oh my goodness, is it really July 20th

It has been 5 weeks since my hubby had his knee replaced and recovery is slow.  It seems it is two steps forward and one step back but today was a milestone.  He drove himself to coffee with his buddies.  That is good for him and is good/bad for me.  I was managing to get a 45 minute walk done while he was having coffee so will have to force myself to be active or go with him a few times per week and do my walk.

I have a new pedometer from Fitbit and it is really keeping me on track with fitness, eating and activity level.  A fun toy and I hope it continues to work for me once the novelty wears off?

Yesterday morning my hubby called me to come and look outside our front door.  I grabbed my camera and this is what we watched until they dissapeared into the bush.

Twice on Monday!

Another setting for my blocks.  I think I really like this one and have to give thanks to my friend AnnieBea for showing me the pattern last summer (or was it the summer before?).

If I make enough blocks, I can make one of each... this one and the stars?  I must tell you that these are so fast and easy with the ruler.  However, my bin of scrappy strips appears to have the same amount of fabric in it, even after sewing with them for the last few days!

New ideas

Now that I have all my winter projects quilted, time to play with some new rulers, some new ideas.  All scrappy of course!

The first block is one that I figured out after watching an Eleanor Burns video.  It is best for using charm packs but I dug into my scrap bin for this one.

And, I bought a new ruler.  A Lazy Angle ruler and this is what I am making out of my strip scrap basket and some black pieces from that bin.

I am having fun!
